Samantha Peterson

Hello, I’m Sam. I’m very excited for you and this journey you’re on! I bet it’s been one heck of a ride! I’m looking forward to hearing about all the ups and downs you’ve experienced so far, and hash out some of the fears and preconceptions you may have about labor. One of the most important aspects of doula-work is education, because knowledge truly is power. And when you feel empowered, you feel safe and confident, and then inner mama-lion can take care of the rest! What I offer to you is a layout of the physiological process of labor and birth, to normalize what’s happening to your changing body and to help you to make informed decisions about possible medical interventions.

I have come to learn that birth is a sacred and transformative experience and that a woman’s body inherently knows how to birth. As your doula, it is my goal to hold the space that allows you to find and maintain your flow–the rhythm and courage to surrender to the power of birth.

I provide trauma-informed, woman-centered care for home births and hospital births. It is my intention to help you feel strong, safe, loved, and empowered, no matter the path you choose for your birth experience. There is no one right way. It is not my job to take over and control your labor experience, but instead, to make your priorities my priorities. Together, we will process your fears, concerns, and goals. We will talk about what you envision for your birth — what music, touch, positions, and breathing exercises you foresee keeping you mindful and calm during this exciting transition. I will be acting as a bridge between you and medical staff, and remaining as fluid and versatile as your changing body and changing needs are, from one moment to the next! I will be that nonjudgmental, encouraging support telling you that YOU CAN DO THIS!

About Me:

I  work with children at a mental health facility, which has shown me that I function well under stress and respond to chaos quickly and calmly.  I love my job and have learned so much about mental health and how to manage difficult family dynamics. I am totally enamored and fascinated by the challenges and beauty of childbirth, which has led me to hopefully becoming a Certified Labor Doula.  I’m also currently in school working towards becoming a Certified Nurse-Midwife. I have a degree in Spanish and Pre-Med and have done a lot of traveling. When not at work or school, I enjoy playing tennis, reading, running, hiking, cooking, crafting, and art.
