Birth work found me after I watched my nephew come into the world. I quickly realized that there was nothing I would rather do than be with individuals and families as they move through the transformation of childbirth. My philosophy has been deeply influenced by my study of women’s health as a Gender Studies major in college, as well as my yoga practice and passion for teaching yoga to children, families, and adults. I trained and certified as a labor doula through Birthingway College of Midwifery in 2015, and love working with families of every size, structure, and background to help them feel truly at home in their birth experience.

But enough about me–what I love most about doula work is learning all about you!

I want to learn everything I can about your vision for your birth because I know this will be one of the most important episodes of your life. As your labor doula, I will tailor my support to your individual needs, preferences, and goals; what is most important to me is that you come away feeling strong, beautiful, empowered, and confident.

When we meet prenatally, we will talk about how to hold space for what you imagine for your birth while being flexible enough to flow gracefully with whatever happens. Working together to protect the exquisite balance of hormones that characterize the childbearing year, we’ll build an individualized birth “toolkit” just for you. It might include:

  • Breath work
  • Guided meditation
  • Physical postures and gentle exercise
  • Massage
  • Essential oils
  • Nutritional support
  • And more!

We will also spend time talking about how you’re feeling physically and emotionally as the birth approaches. My goal is to find a variety of ways to maximize your wellbeing and comfort before, during, and after you deliver your baby. I support and celebrate all family constellations, and have a special place in my practice for LGBTQ families, people aiming for a VBAC, single parents, and individuals with a history of difficult pregnancy and/or birth experiences. Whoever you may be, I look forward to exploring what makes you and your birth unique and beautiful.

I’m so excited for you as you begin your parenting journey; the Portland area is a wonderful place to raise a child (which I can swear to as a born-and-bred Rose City native!) I currently live in the Sellwood neighborhood with my wife, dog, and two cats, and when I’m not doula-ing I love reading, writing, hiking, and being silly with my nieces and nephews.
