Birthingway’s Lactation Consultation Program provides students with classroom and clinical experience in preparation for work as a professional Lactation Consultant. Students are trained within the biodynamic model, emphasizing physiological processes and low intervention care.
Graduates of Birthingway’s Lactation Consultation Program will:
- have basic competency in providing biodynamic care.
- be able to use compassionate communication and empathy, and identify feelings and needs.
- be prepared to be internationally certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
- have the opportunity to earn an associate degree.
Greetings from Stacey, our Lactation Consultation Program Coordinator!
In a recent search for Pathway 2 programs, I discovered that while some programs offer the 90-hour required lactation specific education required to apply to become an IBCLC, Birthingway offers over 900+hours of education. With this vastly different knowledge base, with rigorous curriculum in both theory and in skill, our Pathway 2 graduates leave here feeling totally prepared to sit, and pass, the IBLCE exam and to start working immediately as a private consultant if they so chose. Our Breastfeeding Center is one of a kind in this country- offering students to opportunity to serve mothers and babies locally (both in-clinic and at home visits) and not-for-profit. Our ALC program continues to push the envelope and raise the bar of awareness for out-of-hospital, non-RN based IBCLC’s.
As a graduate and now practicing IBCLC, I welcome any and all questions about our Pathway 2 program. I can speak first hand to the experience as a student here and also help support your individual path to follow your passion of working with moms and babies within the breastfeeding relationship.
